FORMER BLAIRITE SUCCUMBS, AGE 72

CHARLES WILLIAM SUTHERLAND, ONE TIME FARMER, DIES IN LOS ANGELES

Charles William “Bill” Sutherland, 72, native of Blair and once a farmer in the Spiker vicinity, died last Wednesday, April 2, in Los Angeles. He had lived there for several years.

Eldest of the eight children of the late Abram and Sarah Elizabeth Sutherland, he was born near Blair January 26, 1869. He grew to manhood here, attending Blair High School.

He was married February 22, 1891 to Kittie Neff, and for a number of years they farmed near Spiker. Later they moved to Shawnee, Oklahoma, where Mr. Sutherland was a farmer and auctioneer.

To Mr. and Mrs. Sutherland were born seven children, two of whom died in infancy. The oldest son, Leonard, met accidental death in October, 1935, at McPherson, Kansas. Mrs. Sutherland died a number of years ago, and Mr. Sutherland had since remarried.

Surviving Mr. Sutherland are his wife, Ella; one son, Russell Sutherland of Kilgore, Texas; three daughters, Mrs. Mabel Elms and Mrs. Marie McKinley, both of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Mrs. Myrtle Miller of Blackwell, Oklahoma. There are eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Other survivors include four sisters, Mrs. Retta Gray of Fremont; Mrs. Malinda Sandilands of Kaslo, British Columbia; Mrs. Amy Merrill of Oakland, California; and Mrs. James P. Mullin (Adda) of Blair.
