PIONEER WOMAN PASSES

The older Blair residents were sorry to hear of the death of Mrs. S. K. Sutherland, on last Wednesday, May 27, at the home of her daughter, Edith, Mrs. A. G. Curtis of Tekamah, Nebr.

Mrs. Sutherland was the wife of the late George Sutherland, one of the early pioneers of Blair. Both Mr. and Mrs. Sutherland were closely identified with the history and activities of our little city and their passing has saddened the hearts of many old friends and neighbors.

Mrs. Sutherland spent several months at the Crowell Home after which she went to Tekamah to make her home with her daughter. Besides the daughter at Tekamah, she is survived by one son, Earl, and several grandchildren. Another daughter, Mrs. May Latta of Tekamah, died a number of years ago leaving two children, a boy and girl, William and Edith, whom Mrs. Sutherland mothered and cared for, for many years. Both have grown to maturity and are married and it was Mrs. Sutherland’s delight and pride to tell her friends of their little attentions and visits to her during her declining years.

Funeral services were held at Tekamah Friday morning, May 29 and burial was made in the Blair Cemetery beside her husband. A number of Blair friends met the funeral cortege as it wended its way through town and followed the remains to its final resting place.

The Enterprise joins the old friends and neighbors in expressing sympathy to the relatives who have lost a loved one and we pause in our daily work to reflect on the valuable services rendered to our town and county by such honest and able pioneers as Mr. and Mrs. George Sutherland.
