Louis Struve Died Sunday

BLAIR MAN WAS VICTIM OF ILLNESS WHICH HAD DISABLED HIM SINCE 1923

Louie Struve, 54, died on Sunday, February 6, the victim of a 21-year illness. Funeral rites were conducted at the Campbell Mortuary in Blair, Wednesday afternoon, and interment was in Blair cemetery; Father Adelbert J. Smith, vicar of St. Mary’s Episcopal church, conducted the service.

A native of Blair, Mr. Struve was born November 10, 1889. He was graduated from Blair high school in 1907, and from the University of Nebraska, college of electrical engineering, in 1911. He was employed by Westinghouse Corporation in Pittsburgh, until his return to Blair as an invalid in 1923.

He served as Washington county assessor from 1932 until 1940, when he was forced to resign because of his health For the past 18 months, he had been a patient at the Norfolk State hospital.

Survivors include his wife, the former Grace Forney of Pittsburgh to whom he was married in 1921; a son, John; two brothers, Herman of Wichita, Kansas, and Chris F. of Blair; two sisters, Mrs. Ed Pfeiffer of Blair and Mrs. Margaret Bivens of Wichita.

Besides the wife and son he leaves two brothers, Herman, of Wichita, Kansas, and Chris F., of Blair; and two sisters, Mrs. Ed Pfeiffer, of Blair; and Mrs. Margaret Bivins, of Wichita.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Campbell Mortuary, and interment was made in the Blair cemetery.

Louie Struve Died in Hospital Last Sunday

Former County Assessor Victim of Accident of Over 20 Years Ago.

Louie Struve, a native of Blair, passed away at the State Hospital, Sunday, February 6th at the age of fifty-four years. Louie graduated from the Blair High School in the class of 1907 and from the University of Nebraska in 1911, where he had taken the course for electrical engineering.

After graduating, he obtained a position with the Westinghouse Electric Company in Pittsburgh. Here he was married to Miss Grace Forney, and to them one son was born. Louie made good in his chosen line of work and was one of the most highly valued men of the company.

Twenty-three years ago, he met with an accident from which he never recovered, and which left him a cripple and an invalid. He came home and as long as his parents lived he made his home with them and after their death he lived with his brother, Mr. and Mrs. Chris F. Struve, until about two years ago, when he became so ill that he was taken to the hospital, where he died.

In 1932, he was elected county assessor and served until the spring on 1940 when his health forced him to resign. During all the long years of suffering he was always cheerful and made the best of his lot. He was a man of much ability and had a host of friends, who held him in high regard.
