STORM LAKE CRASH KILLED FOUR RELATED HERE

MOTHER, BROTHER, NIECE AND NEPHEW OF MRS. JOHN NORTHWALL KILLED FRIDAY

Ohrtman, Harold, 47; Ohrtman, Clara, 73; Ohrtman, Robert, 12; Ohrtman, Barbara, 14

A Friday evening auto crash at a rural intersection southeast of Storm Lake, Iowa, killed four members of a farm family related to Mrs. John Northwall, of 978 North 25th Avenue, Blair.

Victims of the crash were Mrs. Northwall's mother, her brother, a niece and a nephew.

A fifth person, riding in the other car involved, was also killed in the crash.

The four persons killed were members of the Harold Ohrtman family of rural Newell, Iowa. The Ohrtmans had recently sold their farm east of Newell and were reportedly traveling west, apparently to see a new home they had purchased in Storm Lake.

Killed were Ohrtman, 47, his son Robert, 12, a daughter, Barbara, 14, and his mother, Mrs. Clara Ohrtman, 73.

The lone survivor in the Ohrtman car was Dorothy Ohrtman, wife of Harold, who was reported to be in serious condition in a Storm Lake hospital.

The accident followed by 16 months the death of a son, Duane Ohrtman, who was killed when a motorcycle he was riding hit a power pole.

Mr. and Mrs. Northwall have been in Iowa since the accident. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at St. Peter Lutheran church at Newell.

Surviving members of the Ohrtman family are two sons, Kenneth, 18, who lived at home and David, of Des Moines and a daughter, Mrs. Bill Rice, of Storm Lake.

An Iowa State Trooper who investigated the accident said weather conditions were good and that the other car involved apparently failed to yield for a stop sign.
