Betty M. Frye, 91

Betty M. Frye, 91, of Fremont, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2011, at Nye Pointe Health and Rehab Center in Fremont.

Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, at Arlington Community Church in Arlington. Interment will be in the Arlington Cemetery.

Visitation began Monday, but will also be held one hour prior to services at the church.

Betty M. Schlapfer was born June 21, 1919, in Arlington to Johanna and Tishia (Hall) Schlapfer. She grew up in Arlington, and was a graduate of Arlington High School. She had been residing at Nye Pointe since May of 2010.

On April 16, 1938, she married Virgil N. Frye at Logan, Iowa.

Mrs. Frye was a member of the Arlington Community Church, where she participated in the church choir, women's fellowship, couples club and was a Sunday School teacher. She was active in the VFW Auxiliary, and was an Extension Board member. She was the Washington County Fair superintendent of the domestic arts department for 60 years.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Arlene and Darrell Hilgenkamp of Arlington; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brothers and sister-in-law, Albert Schlapfer of Mesa, Calif., and Walter and Gloria Schlapfer of Henderson, Nev.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil, in March 2001; seven brothers, Clyde, Herman, Richard, Archibald, Jack, Robert, and William Schlapfer; and two sisters, Nina Schlapfer and Anne Dickmeyer.

Memorials are suggested to the Arlington Community Church, Odyssey Hospice, or Arlington American Legion baseball program.

Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
