Albert L. Suverkrubbe, 82, died Saturday, May 16, 2009, at his home in Fort Calhoun.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, May 21, at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home. Interment with military honors will be in the Fort Calhoun Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Albert Lee “Muggs” Suverkrubbe was born July 9, 1926 at Fort Calhoun to Albert and Frances (Kruse) Suverkrubbe. He attended Fort Calhoun High School, graduating in 1943.

At the age of 11, he worked on a threshing crew for his uncle and later worked for his cousins on the farm. Prior to entering the Army, he worked for Standard Furnace Company.

In January of 1945, he entered the United States Army and took his basic training at Fort Hood in Texas. He was sent to the Philippines and then to Japan with the occupation forces. He served in the 24th Infantry Quartermaster Company, reaching the rank of technician fourth class. He was discharged at Fort Douglas, Utah, in September of 1946.

Mr. Suverkrubbe then worked for Swartzx Supply in Omaha; for Sorensen Plumbing and Heating in Blair; and joined OPPD in 1956, and retired with 32 years of service in 1988. On June 6, 1964, he married Ruth Thornam Stout in Fort Calhoun.

Mr. Suverkrubbe was a member of the Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church; Solomon Lodge No. 10 AF & AM; charter member of American Legion Post No. 348, serving as adjutant for 17 years; life member of Voiture 1018 40 & 8 in Fremont; life member of VFW Post Npo. 5637; served on the Washington County Veterans Committee; member of the Fort Calhoun Board; and was an admiral in the Great Navy, State of Nebraska.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, John and Susan Stout of Buckeye, Ariz., and Jesse and Vicki Stout of Scribner; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth, and a brother, Robert.
