Douglas B. Svendgard, 42, of Phillips, formerly of Arlington, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island after a car accident early Tuesday.

Services will be Friday, Dec. 18, at the Fremont Alliance Church, with the Rev. John Wirkes officiating.

Burial with military honors will be in Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.

Visitation will be on Thursday, Dec. 17, at the Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Douglas B. Svendgard was born Dec. 5, 1956 in Fremont.

He grew up in the Arlington area and attended the Arlington Public Schools.

He joined the Army and served three years. Towards the end of his service, he was stationed in Colorado Springs, Colo., where he remained to work in construction after his service. He moved back to Nebraska in the spring of 1982 and worked in construction.

He later bought and operated a locker plant in Wynot until a hand injury prevented him from wielding a knife. The past two years he worked as a federal meat inspector at the Monfort Plant in Grand Island.

He is survived by his parents, Fran and Darrell Miller of Blair and Andrew and Carol Svendgard of Arlington; a daughter, Sherri of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a son, Charles of Wynot; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Tami and Brian Johnson; and Patti and Bruce Sullivan, all of Arlington; and Minday Svendgard of Omaha; two stepbrothers, Michael Miller of Uehling and Jim Miller of Kennard; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Merle and Sarah Newkirk and Andrew and Oma Svendgard.

Memorials are suggested to the Arlington Community Foundation.
