Mr. Svendgaard was 82 years of age at the time of his passing, having been born in Denmark on June 13th, 1861. He came to Washington County at the age of 18 years, and has resided in this county ever since.

On June 1, 1886 he was united in marriage to Miss Emma Jensen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Soren Jensen. To this union ten children were born - Alfred, who died in childhood; Sena, who is now Mrs. Anton Anderson of Arlington; Soren of Humphreys, Missouri; Elizabeth, who is Mrs. Carl Andersen of Los Angeles, California; Nels of Arlington; Andrew of Blair; Odessa, now Mrs. Lloyd Brown of Arlington; Alvin of Blair; Goldie, who is Mrs. Roy Follen; and Pearl, now Mrs. Peter Stricklett, Jr., both of Blair. A brother, Nels Svendgaard of Omaha preceded him in death two years ago. Besides his immediate family, there are twenty grandchildren and forty five great grandchildren left to mourn for him.

From the time of his marriage, Mr. Svendgaard resided on a farm south of Orum where his son, Alvin, now lives, until fourteen years ago when he moved his family to the home on Nebraska Street in Blair where they now reside.

Mr. Svendgaard had been in poor health for some time, having submitted to a major operation a year ago last March, and at that time was in the Methodist Hospital in Omaha, from March 1st until the middle of June.

Services will be held at the First Lutheran Church in Blair, with Rev. H. C. Jorgensen conducting the last rites, but the arrangements are not yet complete and no date has been set for the funeral. Chris K. Bendorf is the undertaker in charge.
