ELMER W. SWANSON, 89

Elmer W. Swanson, 89 of Papillion, Nebraska, formerly of Thurston, Nebraska, died January 7, 1990 at the Huntington Park Care Center in Papillion.

Funeral services were at 10:30 Thursday, Janaury 11 at the United Methodist Church in Pender, Nebraska. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery with Rev. Wm Anderson officiating.

Elmer W. Swanson, the third son of Nels and Johanna Olsen Swanson, was born January 16, 1900 near Herman, Nebraska. As a child he lived in the Kennard area. In 1918 he moved to Thurston, Nebraska where he went into farming.

On September 3, 1934, he married Jeannette Hanson R.N. in Tisdale, Saskatchewan. Elmer and Helen farmed northeast of Thurston until 1962 when they moved into town. Helen died in 1965.

In 1982 Elmer moved into the Huntington Park Care Center in Papillion where he met and married Lucy Amick of Papillion. Lucy died in 1988.

Survivors include his daughter, Judy Scheuer of Leonardtown, Maryland; one brother, Harry Swanson of Blair; one sister, Alma Widener of Tekamah; four grandchildren, Robert Staffeld of Omaha; Belinda Scheuer-Ryberg of Lexington Park, Maryland; Daniel Scheuer of Leonardtown, Maryland; and Van Swanson of Eden Prairie, Minnesota and numerous nieces and nephews.

Elmer was preceded in death by his wives, Helen and Lucy; one son, Rev. Robert L. Swanson and one daughter, Glenda Lee Staffeld-Shupe.
