AUGUST “GUS” LOWE, 85

Funeral services for August “Gus” Lowe, 85 of Tekamah and formerly of Herman, Nebraska, who died September 11, 1990 at the Tekamah Nursing Center, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, at the Herman Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Orvis officiating. Burial will be in the Herman Cemetery with Masonic graveside services conducted by the Herman Landmark Lodge.

August Hugh Lowe was born to Forrest and Bertha Lowe on a farm northwest of Tekamah on February 21, 1905. Shortly thereafter they moved to a farm near Herman where he grew to adulthood and continued to reside there until moving to the Tekamah Nursing Center in 1986. He received his education in the Herman Public Schools.

He married Margaret Eileen Olson on February 5, 1929. She preceded him in death on August 5, 1978.

Gus was a grain buyer for Holmquist Grain and Lumber Company for 36 years until his retirement in 1970. For many years he was a Herman Booster working with the Community Club. He was instrumental in helping organize the Boy Scouts in the late 1940s. He was also a 60-year member of the Herman Landmark Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Eileen; three brothers, Gordon, Stanley, and Bert Lowe; and by one sister, Pearl Richter.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Dick and Shirley Lowe, Tekamah, Nebraska; three grandchildren, Mrs. Jeff “Vicki” Nelson; Gordon and Michael Lowe; four great-grandchildren, Molly, Ryan and Kiley Nelson and Stephen Lowe. He is also survived by a special niece Rosemary Spencer.
