JOHN F. ARP, JR., 44

Services for John F. Arp, Jr., 44, who died October 9, 1991, at Fort Meade Veterans Hospital at Sturgis, South Dakota after a lengthy illness will be Tuesday, October 15 at the Open Bible Fellowship Church in Piedmont, South Dakota. Rev. Gary Stetler will officiate. Burial will be at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis with military honors provided by the Marine Corps League and the Disabled American Veterans.

John F. Arp, Jr. was born September 15, 1947 at Fremont, Nebraska to John and M. Loretta Strong Arp, Sr. He was raised and educated in the Fremont, Nebraska area and attended junior and senior high in Fremont.

He joined the United States Marine Corps September 23, 1965 and served during the Vietnam Conflict. He was awarded numerous medals and commendations. He was honorably discharged from the Marines May 16, 1969.

He attended Grand Island Law Enforcement Academy at Grand Island, Nebraska. He was an Oakland Police Officer at Oakland, Nebraska. He served as a deputy sheriff for Pierce County, living in Pierce, Nebraska. He also lived at Plainview, Nebraska.

He was a heavy equipment operator at Ellsworth Air Force Base at the time of his death.

He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Marine Corps League, both of Rapid City, South Dakota.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Arp, Sr. and one sister, Rose Ann Arp.

He is survived by his wife, Karen of 701 Seahawk Dr., Rapid City, South Dakota 57701; two daughters, Sarah Arp and Rachel Arp, both at home; his mother, Loretta Iverson of Fremont; two sisters, Marilyn Loges of Eldon, Missouri and Pattie Homan of Rapid City, South Dakota and three brothers, Robert Arp of Galena, Alaska; Don Arp of Lincoln and Michael Homan of Rapid City.
