Duane H. Kuhr, 79

Duane H. Kuhr, 79 years, of Fremont, NE died Monday, August 3, 2015 at his home.

Duane was born November 5, 1935 at Orum, Nebraska to Albert and Belva(Arp)Kuhr. He grew up near Orum and was a graduate of Blair High School. He lived in Omaha and attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He served in the U.S. Naval Reserves from 1954 to 1962. Duane married Eileen Mahrt on June 18, 1961, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont and the couple just celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary. They moved to Fremont in 1975. Duane was previously employed by Mutual of Omaha for 42 years and retired in 1998. Following that he worked for other insurance companies and later worked at Siffring Landscaping and Garden Center in Fremont.

Duane was a former member of Immanuel Lutheran Church at Orum, King of Kings Lutheran Church in Omaha, where they were founding members, and Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont. He is a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Fremont and was an usher at the church. He was also a member of the Fremont's Library Civil War Group.

Duane enjoyed golf, playing cards, taking long trips in the car and reading books on WWII and the Civil War.

He is survived by his wife, Eileen; son, Bryan and wife, Theresa Kuhr of Albuquerque, N.M.; daughter, Kari and husband, Brad Thompson of Fremont; brother, David and wife, Carol Kuhr of Blair, NE; 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant granddaughter, Shelbi Anthony.

Memorial service will be 11 AM, Monday, August 10, 2015, at Salem Lutheran Church in Fremont. The Rev. Michael Thomas will officiate. There is no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Salem Lutheran Church.
