Dr. O.M. “Mike” Krogstrand, 92

Memorial Service for Dr. O.M. “Mike” Krogstrand, age 92 of Blair, Nebraska, will be held Wednesday August 12, 2015 at 10:00AM at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Graveside services will be held at a later date at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, South Dakota. Mr. Krogstrand died August 3, 2015, at Crowell Home in Blair, Nebraska.

Dr. O.M. “Mike” Krogstrand was born July 30, 1923 at Hilland, South Dakota to Mikal and Eline Krogstrand. He grew up in western South Dakota and graduated from Rapid City Central High School in 1942. He entered the Army in 1943 and served as a rifleman in an infantry battalion in the 1st Armored Division in Italy. While in the service, he was awarded the Combat Infantryman badge, Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He was given a disability discharge in 1945 for wounds received in Italy.

In 1946, he married Irmagene Sieg of Hot Springs, South Dakota. Four children were born to this union: Jerry, Ron, Mark, and Lori.

Mike loved all sports and was an ardent bowler for many years. His greatest love was fly fishing, and he was a master. He was a strategic card player, and most enjoyed poker, hearts and gin rummy.

Mike was an active member of the Lion’s Club for many years. He was a past president and charter member of the Custer Lutheran Fellowship Church. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a founding member of the Custer AA Chapter. He was a dedicated member of the Southern Hills Gideon Society, until moving to Blair, Nebraska in 2009.

Mike was proceeded in death by his wife of 68 years, Irmagene, four sisters: Dot, Lee, Ethel, and Tudy, twin brother Kermit “Kay,” and beloved son, Jerry, in 1992.

He is survived by his sons Ron (Kaye) Krogstrand of Omaha; Mark (Penny) Krogstrand of Aberdeen, SD; and daughter Lori (Mike Aman of Blair. Also survived by grandchildren: Mikal, John, Derek, Mikala, Alicia, Colton, Susan, and Anthony, and great-grandson, Mitchell.

In lieu of flowers memorials should be directed to the Gideon’s Society.
