JANET E. LUDWIG, 67

Janet E. Ludwig, 67k, of Arlington, died April 15, 2003 at Fremont Area Medical Center after battling cancer for two years.

As per her wishes, there will be no visitation, and only immediate family members will attend private graveside services on Friday, April 18, at the Arlington Cemetrry. The Rev. Mark Grorud of First Lutheran Church of Fremont will officiate.

Janet Ellen Ludwig was born Aug. 18, 1935 in Fremont to George and Thelma Niebaum. She was the youngest of three children. She grew up on a small farm near Telbasta, just northeast of Fontanelle. She graduated from Fremont Senior High School in 1953.

On Nov. 25, 1956, she married Raymond Ludwig Jr. at Fontanelle Lutheran Church.

She earned a bachelor of science degree from Midland Lutheran College and a master’s degree in education from the University of Nebraska-Omaha in 1974.

For 26 of her 28-year career, she was an elementary school teacher at Arlington Public Schools, where she retired in 1997. During her career, she received many awards, including Who’s Who of Teachers; the HunTel Systems Golden Apple Award; the Arlington Public School 20 years of Dedicated Service Award; and the Peter Kiewit Award.

She was an active member of her church and community. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Fremont; Hope Circle; Washington County Cancer Board; Past Matron of Sarepta Chapter No. 24 Order of Eastern Star; AAUW and, as secretary/treasurer of the Arlington Community Fund, she was instrumental in obtaining new playground equipment for the Arlington Park.

To the end, Mrs. Ludwig was a true teacher as she perpetually prepared for life with Christ. As students, we continue to learn and practice the many lessons she taught us through life and through death, including the values of faith, hope, love, and spirituality; and the importance of family and friendship. She touched the lives of many people and will be missed by all.

She is survived by her husband, Raymond; two sons and a daughter-in-law, John and Cheryl Ludwig of O’Neill and Daniel Ludwig of Lincoln; three grandchildren; and a brother, James Niebaum of Carizozo, N.M.; many family members and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Michael and Geryl; and her brother, Donald.

Memorials are suggested to the First Lutheran Church of Fremont; the American Cancer Society; and the Arlington Community Fund.

Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington was in charge of arrangements.
