George Barger Died Saturday

Died of a Cancer on the Chin after Suffering with it for Several Years

George Washington Barger passed away at his home on East Nebraska street last Saturday, September 8th, of a cancer on the chin, that he had been a sufferer from for several years. The funeral service held at the residence at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon with interment in the Blair cemetery by the side of his wife, whose death occurred five years ago.

Mr. Barger was born in Lawrence county, Ind., December 23rd, 1842, so was 85 years 9 months and 13 days old. He was married to Miss Elizabeth Arter, on June 5th, 1869, and nine children were born to them, one daughter dying in infancy and Mrs. Joe Sublet in 1918.

Those surviving are Mary, Mrs. Hugh More, Thomas, of Tekamah, Ellen, Mrs. Chas. Wilderson, of Omaha, James, of Tekamah, Gertrude, Mrs. Jonas Metzler, of Tekamah, Charles, of Tekamah, and John, who lived at home. There were also two step-children, Dunham Finley and Nancy McKeen.

There are 53 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren.

Mr. Barger had lived in Blair for the past 22 years and was highly respected by all who knew him as was attested by the large number of friends and neighbors who paid their last tribute of respect to his memory at the funeral service Monday.
