James H. Peters one of the early pioneers of Fontanelle, who in late years made his home with one of his daughters, Mrs. James Furgusou at Clearwater, Neb., died the latter part of last week and was interred in the old historic Fontanelle cemetery, a Nickerson minister officiating. Mr. Peters was one of the oldest landowners in Dodge county, having lived his lifetime on his farm about 1 mile west of Fontanelle near the Washington county line. He was born in 1819 therefore having passed his 92nd milestone in life. He is survived by three daughters and two sons, Mr. McBroone, of Colorado; Mrs. T. C. Sexton, of Fremont; Mrs. James Ferguson, of Clearwater, Neb.; James Peters now living in Kan., and Sam Peters of Nickerson; all were in attendance.

AN OLD TIMER DIES

Stricken with complications due to old age, James H. Peters of Nickerson, one of the very earliest of Dodge county pioneers, passed away at Clearwater, Neb. Friday evening at 9:40 o’clock according to a telegram received by his daughter, Mrs. T. C. Sexton of Fremont. Mr. Peters had been ill for a year past, during which time he resided with his daughter, Mrs. J. C. Fergunson of Clearwater.

James H. Peters came to Dodge county in 1855 and located at Fontanelle. He was a member of the colony that founded Fontanelle and later made it county seat of Dodge county. He retained until his death the homestead on which he settled fifty five years ago.
