Elaine E. Konecky, 88

Former Blair resident Elaine E. Konecky, 88, of Columbus, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011, at Columbus Community Hospital in Columbus.

A memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 21, at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Blair. Interment will be in the Tekamah Cemetery.

Elaine Eloise Drummond was born Nov. 14, 1922, on a farm near Lyons to Earl and Jennie (Ruhe) Drummond.

She graduated from Lyons High School in 1940. She attended Wayne State College for one year, then taught at country schools.

On Jan. 24, 1945, she married Edward Konecky at Rapid City, S.D. The couple had two sons; the youngest died suddenly due to the Rh factor. When her surviving son graduated from high school, Mrs. Konecky attended Dana College at night and graduated cum laude. She taught school at Divide Center, Lyons and Oakland for many years.

She loved playing classical music on the piano, and loved planting many flowers, especially iris.

She was a member of St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Blair.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Patsy Konecky of Columbus; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Harry Drummond of Blair; sister, LaVerne Knecht, also of Blair.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; son, David; sister, Ethel Gugeni; brothers, Harold, Donald, and Eldon Drummond.

Memorials are suggested to the Tekamah Fire and Rescue Department.
