Helen “Betty” Crain, 80, of Blair, died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, at the Carter House in Blair.

Funeral services are 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17, at First United Methodist Church in Blair. Interment will be at 2 p.m. in the Union Grove Cemetery near Northboro, Iowa.

Betty Crain was born June 6, 1924, in Elmo, Mo., to LeRoy and Helen (Gates) Pruitt. She taught elementary school before she married Edward Benjamin Crain Jr. on July 21, 1945.

She worked at Crain Grocery Store in Northboro for more than 30 years. After it closed, she worked as a postal clerk in Northboro. The Crains moved to Tarkio, Mo., in the mid 1980’s. She served as a church organist for 30 years at the United Methodist Church and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed square dancing and was a member of the “Betty Club.” She moved to Blair in 1998 and lived at the Carter House for the past four years.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Evelyn and Randall Kumm of Blair; son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Pearl Crain of Petersburg, Alaska; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two sisters-in-law, Vivian Pruitt of Maryville, Mo., and Dorothy Thompson of St. Petersburg, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, and a brother, Paul.

Memorials are suggested to Carter House, First United Methodist Church, or hospice.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
