Blair native Miriam A. Cree, 89, of Sioux City, Iowa, died March 31, 2002, at Countryside Retirement Home in Sioux City.

Funeral services were Wednesday, April 3, at Southern Hills Baptist Church in Sioux City with Bob Dillman officiating. Graveside services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Blair City Cemetery.

Miriam Augusta Cree was born Aug. 23, 1912, in Blair to Thomas Findley and Nellie (Dripps) Bracken. She graduated from Emerson High School in 1930, and graduated from Wayne State College in 1932.

After college, she worked as a secretary at various colleges. Later, she was employed as a traveling secretary for Christian Business ad Professional Women, and later did similar work for Gospel Recordings, during which she met her future husband.

On March 20, 1950, she married Chalmers R. Cree in Washington, D.C.

The Eastern U.S.A. recording studio for Gospel Recordings was in the couple’s home in Altoona, Penn. After retirement, they moved to Oklahoma, Arizona, and California. Following her husband’s death in 1993, she moved to Sioux City. During her lifetime, Mrs. Cree was known to be an excellent typist and pianist.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Altoona, and Grace Community Church in Panama City, Calif. She was a member of Gideons International for many years.

She is survived by a brother, Marion J. Bracken of Mesa, Ariz., two nieces and their husband, Mary and Jin Gustafson of Kiron, Iowa, and JoAnn and Alan Anderson of Mercer Island, Wash., two twin nephews and their wives, Dr. Richard and Angela Ulrich of Bonaire, Ga., and Dr. Wesley and Beverly Ulrich of Mafrag, Jordon.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, James, Paul and David, a sister Rachel Ulrich, and a nephew, Thomas Bracken II.

Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel in Sioux City was in charge of arrangements.
