Heart Attack Takes Well-Known Farmer without Warning

Harland Clarence Nelson, 44 passed away at his home near Orum, Thursday night, January 2nd, shortly after retiring. Death was attributed to a coronary thrombosis.

Mr. Nelson was born on September 14, 1913 to Chris and Emma Nelson on the farm which he has lived all his life.

On June 8, 1938 he was married to Myrtle Paulsen. To this union two sons were born, Donald 15 ½ years old and Roger age 12 ½ years. Besides his wife and sons he is survived by a sister, Mrs. Ray Holstein (Helen) of Alta, Iowa.

Mr. Nelson was a friendly person and always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed any assistance. He had just completed serving several years on the Church Board and had been a member of the Orum School Board for nine years.

A short funeral service was held at the Nelson home at 2 P.M. on Sunday, followed by services at the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Orum at 2:30. The Rev. Roy Jorgensen officiated and the Bendorf Funeral Home was in charge. Mrs. Harlan Wulf was organist. Mr. Homer Nielsen, accompanied by Mrs. Irene Ingle, sang two solos.

Burial was made in the Church Cemetery with six cousins as pallbearers. They were Harold E. Rasmussen, George Rasmussen, Raymond Rasmussen, Leonard Nelson, Floyd Hinz and Fred W. Jensen.

The Orum Ladies Aid served lunch at the church following the services.
