Evelyn Kroger, 81

Evelyn Kroger, 81, of Lyons, died Monday, Sept. 27, 2004, at the Fremont Area Medical Center.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 1, at the Memorial United Methodist Church in Lyons. Interment will be in the Lyons Cemetery.

Visitation began Thursday at Piper Funeral Home in Lyons and will continue on Friday 10 a.m.

Evelyn Kroger, 81

Evelyn Kroger, 81, of Lyons, died Sept. 27, 2004 at Fremont Area Medical Center.

Funeral services for Evelyn L. Koeger were held Friday, Oct. 1, at the Memorial United Methodist Church in Lyons. Graveside services were held at the Lyons Cemetery.

Evelyn Lorraine (Brunton) Kroger was born Nov. 18, 1922, in Blair to William and Opal (Bovee) Brunton.

She grew up in the Divide Center area and graduated from Lyons Public High School in 1940, where she met her future husband, Donald R. Kroger.

The Krogers were married in her parents’ home on Oct. 29, 1944. They made their home north of Lyons, where they farmed in the Jefferson community.

Mrs. Kroger was a long time member of the Jefferson Ladies Aide as well as the Lyons Ladies Extension Club. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Lyons where she enjoyed singing in the choir. For many years she was a correspondent for the Lyons Mirror Sun writing the Jefferson News and later the Westside News as well.

Mrs. Kroger loved horses, working crossword puzzles, playing card games, watching golf on TV, and listening to the laughter of her family. She and her husband enjoyed many trips together including going to Hawaii and Washington D.C.

She devoted her life to her family. She loved raising a big family and watching it grow bigger and bigger with each passing year. She also enjoyed the company of and corresponding with her many, many friends she made over the years.

Mrs. Kroger is remembered as a truly kind, caring and thoughtful person whose passing is grieved not only by her family, but by a community.

Survivors include her husband, Don Kroger of Lyons; daughters and sons-in-law, Jan and Monte Newell of Fremont, Betty and Lynn Hasenkamp of Lyons, Joan and Lonnie Rogers and Vicki and Dan Fredrickson, all of Nickerson, Bonnie and Mark Cram of Omaha; sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Jean Kroger and Rod and Bonnie Kroger, all of Lyons; brothers and sister-in-law, Earl and Magle of Oakland; sisters-in-law, Ruth of Osakis, Minn., Carol of Crystal Lake, Ill., Marian Kohlmeier of Craig, Stella Kroger of San Marcos, Calif.; brother-in-law and spouse, Elwyn and Burma Kroger of Lincoln; 25 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Orland, Keith and Bill Brunton; a daughter, Patty, a son, Bobbie; a daughter-in-law, Barb; a sister-in-law, Dorothy, a brother-in-law, Orrin Kohlmeier, and a brother-in-law, Paul Kroger.

Piper Funeral Home, of Lyons, was in charge of arrangements.
