Herold R. Krohn, 81

Herold R. Krohn, 81, of rural Craig, died Wednesday, May 1, 2002, in the Hooper Care Center at Hooper.

Funeral services were Monday, May 6, at Immanuel Lutheran Church of rural Hooper, with Rev. Rodney Meske officiating. Interment was in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, with military honors provided by American Legion Post No. 127 and V.F.W. Post No. 10535.

Herold R. Krohn was born Oct. 23, 1920, in Washington County to Emil and Louise (Wittman) Krohn. He grew up on the farm, and graduated from Immanuel Lutheran School, located east of Winslow.

During World War II, from 1942 until 1946, he served in the United States Navy with the SeaBees. He saw service in England and in Okinawa, Japan.

On June 30, 1946, he married Elva Hartung in the Immanuel Lutheran Church.

After serving in the military, he farmed briefly in Washington County and then, in 1947, the couple moved to a farm in Burt County where they remained until his death. Along with farming, Mr. Krohn also did carpentry work.

He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and its Lutheran Laymen’s League. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 127 of Craig, and the Hooper-Winslow V.F.W. Post No. 10535. An avid bowler, he was a member of the American Bowling Congress and participated in many bowling tournaments around the country.

He is survived by his wife, Elva; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Jim Panning of Hooper; son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Denise Krohn of Council Bluffs, Iowa; four grandchildren; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Elmer and Lois Krohn of Herman, Orland and Fern Krohn of Hooper, and the Rev. Paul Krohn of Farmington, Minn.; a sister-in-law, Lorraine and husband, Lloyd Salyer of Fremont; and brothers-in-law, Wallace and wife Betty Hartung and Stanley and wife, Alyce Hartung, all of Fremont.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, sister-in-law, Betty Krohn, and a brother-in-law, Kermit Hartung.

Memorials are suggested to Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Hour, and Lutheran Family Services.

Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont was in charge of arrangements.

CRAIG – The funeral for Herold R. Krohn, 81, of rural Craig will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church of rural Hooper (east of Winslow). He died Wednesday, May 1, 2002 at Hooper Care Center in Hooper.

In 1947, he moved to a farm in Burt County where the couple still was living. He also had done carpentry work along with farming.

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and its Lutheran Laymen’s League. He was a member of American Legion Post 127 of Craig and Hooper-Winslow Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 10535. An avid bowler, he was a member of the American Bowling Congress and participated in many bowling tournaments throughout the country.

Survivors include: his wife; a daughter, Nancy (Mrs. Jim) Panning of Hooper; a son, Steven (and his wife, Denise) Krohn of Council Bluffs, Iowa; three brothers, Elmer (and wife, Lois) Krohn of Herman, Orland (and wife, Fern) Krohn of Hooper and the Rev. Paul Krohn of Farmington, Minn.; a sister-in-law, Lorraine (Mrs. Lloyd) Salyer of Fremont; two brothers-in-law, Wallace (and wife, Betty) Hartung and Stanley (and wife, Alyce) Hartung, all of Fremont; and four grandchildren, Craig and Amy Panning and Melanie and Victoria Krohn.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, a sister-in-law and a brother-in-law.

The Rev. Rodney Meske will officiate Monday’s service. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Sunday at Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont with family receiving friends from 1-4 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service time Monday at the church. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post 127 and V.F.W. Post 10535.
