Walter D. Krohn, 90

Walter D. Krohn, 90, of Fremont, died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004, at the A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.

Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont. Interment will be in Fremont’s Memorial Cemetery.

Walter D. Krohn was born April 23, 1914, in the Hooper area to John and Alvina (Beerman) Krohn. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Winslow. He graduated from Hooper High School in 1931 and attended Midland College.

On Dec. 18, 1937, he married Lilly Scheer at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Arlington. The couple farmed west of Winslow.

In 1945, he accepted a job as parts manager at the Farmers Co-op in Winslow. He also served on the District 85 School Board. In 1948, he was appointed manager of the Uehling Co-op Association. While in Uehling, he served as president of the Lions Club. He was also president of the Uehling School Board, and had the honor of awarding high diplomas to both his daughters.

In 1956, he became manager of the Blencoe (Iowa) Co-op Association. In 1968, he resigned and moved to Omaha. In 1975, he began working at the Home Center of Millard Lumber. He retired in 1982 and, in 1983, he moved to Fremont.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Fremont, and served on many boards at all the churches where he was a member. He served as an elder at Trinity Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, Lilly; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanette and Allyn Poling of Fremont, and Kay and Einar Anderson of Tucson, Ariz.; four grandchildren; six great-grand-children; two sisters, Norma Schole of Scribner and Selma Scheer of Arlington, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Hilbert, Alfred, Herbert, Victor, and Arthur, and a sister, Wilma Mintken.

Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church.
