HERMAN MEN FOUND DEAD IN THEIR HOME

Carl and Fred Olson died of natural causes prior to last Friday.

Carl and Fred Olson, retired bachelor farmers living in Herman, were found dead in their home Friday morning. They lived in a house just north of the former Herman Cooperative store.

County Attorney Darvid Quist, who was called to investigate the deaths, reported that the men appeared to have died from natural causes. There was no evidence of foul play, he said.

It was surmized that one of the men had fallen, possibly as the result of a heart attack. The other, in attempting to help his brother regain his feet, had also fallen or had also had a heart attack. Several pieces of furniture had been knocked over, indicating that the second brother had sturggled desperately to keep from falling or to regain his feet.

The time of death could not be determined although it appeared to have been several days prior to the discovery of the bodies Friday.

Heat in the house and all other conditions was reported to be normal.

The Olson brothers had been farmers all of their life. They farmed a place west of Herman until two years ago when they retired and moved to Herman.

Carl Olson was the younger, having been born in July, 1900. He was 74. His brother, Fred, was older, having been born in April 1897, thereby making his age 77.

Mrs. Dagmar Goll, of Blair is a niece of the men and Ivan Olson is a nephew. Mrs. Bessie Albach and Mrs. Gus Lowe, both of the Herman area, are cousins. There are other cousins, but none in the Washington County area.

Four brothers and one sister preceded the men in death.

The bodies were taken to the Campbell Mortuary in Blair pending funeral arrangements which had not been made as this item was prepared for the Pilot-Tribune Friday afternoon. Burial will be in the Herman cemetery.

OLSON BROTHERS BURIED AT HERMAN TUESDAY MORNING

Fred and Carl Olson, lifelong residents of the Herman area who were found dead in their home at Herman January 10th, were buried in the Herman cemetery last Tuesday morning. A committal ceremony was conducted at graveside.

Both men were bachelor farmers who had farmed west of Herman many years. They retired to a home in Herman two years ago.

Death, according to County Coroner Darvid Quist, was attributed to heart attacks which both apparently had happened almost simultaneously. They had been dead several days before their bodies were discovered. There was no evidence of foul play or anything unnatural, according to Mr. Quist.

Mrs. Dagmar Goll of Blair is a niece; Ivan Olson is a nephew. Mrs. Bessie Albach and Mrs. Gus Lowe, both of the Herman area, are cousins.

Four brothers and one sister preceded them in death.

Pastor Robert Albers of the First Lutheran Church at Blair, conducted the committal service.
