Wallace Johnson, 91

Wallace (Wally) Elvon Johnson, 91, of Blair, died Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Burial will be at 4 p.m. in the Swaaborg Cemetery. A Masonic service will be at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 28, at the Campbell-Aman Chapel.

Wallace Johnson was born July 25, 1908, to Herman and Minnie (Koehler) Johnson on the family farm near Oakland. He was baptized Sept. 6, 1908, and confirmed May 31, 1925, at Elim (Swaaborg) Lutheran Church in Hooper.

He entered the United States Army in February of 1941. He was discharged because of his age in November 1941. Following the Pearl Harbor attack, he was called back to service in the Aleutian Islands from 1942 to 1944. He was sent to Europe in 1945. He earned three Battle Stars, a Combat Infantry Badge and a Bronze Star while in the service. He was discharge in November of 1945.

On Nov. 27, 1974, he married Anita Paulsen Holstein at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bennington. He worked as a farm hand prior to the war and as a musician and carpenter in the Uehling, Oakland and Blair areas after the war. He played the bass fiddle in Les’Merry Men, The Starlighters and Wally and Anita bands.

He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Danish Brotherhood #206 and Fraternal Order of Eagles #3215 of Blair. He also belonged to the American Legion of Uehling, the VFW of Oakland, the Washington #21 Masonic Lodge of Blair, the Royal Arch Masons #57 of Oakland, the Knights of Templar and the Grand Order Cryptic Masons #516 of Fremont, the Tangier Temple of Omaha, and the Mo-Ri-Shrine Club of Blair.

He is survived by his two brothers and a sister-in-law, Vernon and Lillian of Oakland; and Kenneth of Uehling.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and a sister, Lorna Dorfmeyer.

Memorials are suggested to the First Lutheran Church or Swaaborg Cemetery.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
