Agnes L. Benes, 93

Agnes L. Benes, 93, of Blair, died Aug. 9, 2004, at Crowell Memorial Home in Blair.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 13, at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Blair. Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery at Weston. Agnes L. Benes was born Feb. 26, 1911, in Brainard to frank and Anna (Horacek) Cermak. On Sept. 27, 1932, she married James J. Benes in Brainard.

The couple farmed in Valparaiso before moving to Fremont, where they operated a hatchery for several years. In 1982, they moved to Blair, and in 2000, Mrs. Benes became a resident at Crowell Memorial Home.

Mrs. Benes loved to keep busy with her garden, roses and Monday night bingo. She had a passion for life and was happiest when she was baking kolaches or knitting hand towels. She took up bowling at the age of 80 and, in later years, looked forward to her trips to area casinos. She loved to be surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and always looked forward to her next adventure.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Al and Charlottte Benes of Fremont; three grandchildren and their spouses; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; daughter, Sylvia Andersen; and 11 brothers and sisters.
