James J. Benes, 89, died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, at Good Shepherd Home in Blair.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church. Rosary will be Wednesday, Feb. 3, at 7 p.m. at the Campbell-Aman Funeral Home.

Burial will be in the St. John’s Cemetery in Weston.

James J. Benes was born Aug. 23, 1909 in Valparaiso to Anton and Anna Benes.

On Sept. 26, 1932, he married Agnes Cermak in Brainard.

Benes farmed in the Valparaiso area before moving to Fremont where he ran a hatchery for several years.

In 1982, the couple moved to Blair.

Benes began his residency at Good Shepherd Home in 1997.

He is survived by his wife, Agnes; son, Al Benes of Fremont; three grandchildren, Vicky Elliott of Tekamah, Larry Andersen of Blair, and Clint Andersen of Blair, four great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Sylvia Andersen, who died in 1997.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
