HERMAN MAN MET TRAGIC DEATH MONDAY

ED OLSON KILLED BY GASOLINE EXPLOSION WHILE WELDING

DEATH SHOCKS COMMUNITY

Ed Olson, lifelong resident of Herman, met a tragic death Monday morning when the gasoline barrel which he was welding exploded. Mr. Olson had partially filled the barrel with water and was working on it in the alley behind his Herman shop when the accident occurred.

Born on a farm west of Herman, October 23, 1885, Mr. Olson was the eldest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Louis Olson. He was one of a family of seven children.

On September 15, 1910, he was married to Emma Petersen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lars Petersen of Herman. Two children, both of whom survive, were born to the couple.

Left to mourn his untimely passing are the widow; a daughter, Dagmar, at home; a son, Ivan Olson, who is stationed at San Antonio, Texas, but was home on furlough at the time of the accident; two brothers, Fred and Carl Olson of Herman; and a sister, Miss Clara Olson of Herman. In addition to the immediate family, many relatives and friends in the Herman and Kennard communities were stricken by the loss of one of Washington County's early settlers.

Most of Mr. Olson's life was spent on a farm west of Herman. For the past twenty-five years, the family had lived in Herman, however, Mr. Olson being employed as an electrician and mechanic.

Funeral services were held at ? o'clock, Wednesday afternoon, at the Herman Methodist Church with Rev. H.C. Jorgensen, pastor of the Blair First Lutheran Church officiating.

Music was furnished by a group of Dana College students; pall bearers were Waldo Hancock, L.D. Long, Gilbert Potadle, Nels Larson, Frank Nelson and Thorval Peterson. Burial was made in the Herman cemetery.
