Mary Kuhr Holstein Buried on Wednesday

Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 27, at First Lutheran Church for Mary Holstein, who passed away Sunday morning (2-24) at Crowell Home in Blair, at the age of 92 years and 8 days. Rev. John Petersen officiated. Burial was in the Blair Cemetery.

Mary Kuhr Holstein was born February 16, 1888, on a farm near Orum, Nebraska to John and Margaretha Kuhr. She was married to Sam Holstein on December 28, 1910, in Blair. They farmed at Ravina, South Dakota, for four years and two children, Margaret and Elmer, were born there.

In the spring of 1915, they moved to a farm two miles northeast of Washington, Nebraska, where two more children, Glen and Erma, were born. They retired from the farm in 1943, and after living in Benson for a short time, they moved to Blair. They celebrated their Golden Wedding in December, 1960.

Sam passed away on May 25, 1967. After the death of her husband, she had the company of her sister, Lena Osburn, in her home. She entered Crowell Memorial Home in October, 1979.

One son, Elmer, also preceded her in death on February 6, 1967*. Also preceding her in death were two grandsons, one great-granddaughter, two sisters and two brothers.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Carsen (Margaret) Petersen, of Kennard, Nebraska, and Mrs. George (Erma) Suverkrubbe of Blair; one son, Glen Holstein of Encinitas, California; and one daughter-in-law, Anita Holstein Johnson of Blair. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, one sister, Lena Osburn, and one brother, Herman Kuhr, both of Blair; a number of nephews and nieces; and many friends.

Pallbearers were Marvin Petersen, Curtis Holstein; Larry Suverkrubbe, Richard Jensen, Lyle Nelson and Richard Johnson.

Campbell Mortuary was in charge of arrangements for the funeral.

* Elmer Holstein died February 6, 1969.
