SERVICES HELD FOR DONALD CRINK

Donald Stanley Crink, son of John and Beatrice (Mansfield) Crink, was born December 24, 1915 on the home place where he lived at the time of his death September 17.

He received his early schooling in District 8 in Elk City, and was graduated from Elkhorn High School.

He confessed his faith in Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord, and was baptized as a child, at the Elk City Methodist Church.

He served his country during World War II with the United States Army. Three-and-one half of his four years of military service were overseas. He was a tank driver, and was one of the first on the Normandy beachhead. He received the Purple Heart, the European-African-Middle-Eastern Theatre campaign ribbon with five bronze stars and four overseas bars.

He was married to Alma W. (Lewis) Smith on March 8, 1950, at Council Bluffs. To their union was born one son, Terry. They have two other sons: Dale Smith and Larry Smith.

The family continued to live on the home place where Crink farmed until his retirement six years ago. He was a member of the American Legion Post 266 of Bennington, was a past Commander, serving in that leadership capacity eight years.

He died at Methodist Midtown in Omaha, at the age of sixty-nine years, eight months and twenty-five days. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister.

Survivors include his wife, Alma, His sons, Terry of Valley, Dale Smith of Chicago, Larry Smith of Bennington; seven grandchildren; other more distant relatives and many friends.

Services were held at Valley’s Swanson Funeral Home, which was in charge of arrangements. Ministers were the Reverend Leonard Barry and the Reverend Walt Marshall.

A military graveside ceremony was conducted by Bennington American Legion Post 266. Pallbearers were Glenn Liesche, Harvey Morris, Raymond Peters, David Sperling, Jerome Sperling and Harlow Wilcox.

Interment was at Elk City Cemetery.
