George Christo Sr., 85 died Saturday, March, 29, 1997 at his home northeast of Albion, Nebr.

Services were April 1 at Immanuel-Zion Lutheran Church in rural Albion. Rev. Larry Spomer is officiated. Burial was in the Immanuel-Zion South Cemetery.

He is the father of Delores Matson of Blair.

Christo was born April 1, 1911 at Newman Grove, Nebr., to Alex and Marie Constantine Christo. He grew up between Albion and Newman Grove, receiving his education through the sixth grade at Boone County School District No. 57. On Dec. 12, 1935, he married Edith Daigh at Immanuel-Zion Lutheran Church. He farmed his entire life in the Southbranch area. After his wife’s death Feb. 12, 1992, he continued to live on the farm until his death.

Survivors are one son and daughter-in-law, George Jr. and Pat of Petersburg, Nebr.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Delores and Dale Matson of Blair and Evelyn and Mike Breist of Sioux Falls, S.D.; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Irene and Charles Merritt of Port Hverene, Calif.; Ann and Keith Jewel of Albion and Rosie and Hank Bohm of Norfolk, Nebr.: one brother and sister-in-law, John and Agnes Christo of Marshalltown, Iowa, and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents; four brothers, Tom, Pete, Jim and Henry and one sister, Helen.

Casket bearers were Dana Matson, Dick Matson, Darrell Matson, Dylan Briest, Wyatt Briest, Gregory Christo and Dustin Christo.

Kathy Nelson was organist. Singers were Janice Tisthammer and Linda Spomer.
