ESMOND CROWN DIED SUDDENLY IN OMAHA

EDUCATOR, HORSE LOVER, HAD INTEREST IN YOUNG PEOPLE

Esmond Crown, 63 year old Blair man, died suddenly Friday of a heart attack while at work at Central High School in Omaha. He had informed the school nurse he was not feeling well and she immediately called an ambulance to take him to a hospital. He did not rally and died a short time later.

Mr. Crown was born at Chehalis, Washington September 24, 1908 and grew up in the west.

As a young man he attended Graceland College at Lamoni, Iowa from which he graduated. Later he attended the University of Iowa to further his education. He had a liking for biology and he continued his work, attending a number of Science Foundation Seminars and availing himself of special work whenever possible.

He was associated with Central High School in Omaha many years ago where he was an instructor in biology. For a time he taught gymnastics and coached wrestling but turned that over to younger men a number of years ago.

In 1959 he purchased a farm south of Blair in the McCarthy district which he name “Hidden Valley Ranch” where he could raise Arabian Horses. In conjunction with this he started the Hidden Valley 4-H Riding Club and he devoted much time to horses and young folks, county fairs and horse shows. He had worked hard to procure better facilities at the Washington County Fair to house and show horses.

He is survived by his wife, Vesta, and a son, Kenneth of Blair, and a daughter, Linda, of Seaside, California. There are five grandchildren.

A brother, Dale Crown, lives at Ft. Scott, Kansas and a sister, Mrs. Gertrude Earl lives at Puyallup, Washington. Another sister, Mrs. Donna Stokes, lives at Boise, Idaho.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be given to the Central High Scholarship Fund, or the Esmond Crown Memorial for Graceland College at Lamoni, Iowa. Memorial can also be given in his name to the Washington County Fair, the money to be used for developing horse facilities on the grounds.

Memorial Services will be held this evening (Monday) at 7:30 at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 3524 Burt Street in Omaha.
