Alma E. Kruger, 103, of Fremont and formerly of Arlington, died Thursday, April 3, 1997 at Arbor Manor in Fremont.

Services were Saturday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church north of Arlington. Rev. Michael L. Rogers and Rev, Dennis Maaske officiated. Burial was in the St. Paul’s Church Cemetery.

Kruger was born Aug. 25, 1893 in rural Hooper, where she grew up. She was a sales clerk at the former Lallman Store in Winslow and the former Schafersman Store in Telbasta, Nebr., prior to her marriage. She married Ewi F. Kruger Jan. 10, 1926 at Arlington. They farmed five miles north of Arlington. After her husband’s death she returned to the rural Hooper area until moving to Fremont in 1949. She moved to Arlington in 1987 and had been living at Arbor Manor since Feb., 1990.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, the Women’s Missionary League and the Ladies’ Quilting Group.

Survivors are her foster daughter-in-law and care giver, Esther Royuk of Arlington; nieces, Gladys Boschult of Colorado; Floma Springan of Nickerson and Beatrice Bartling of Fremont; a nephew, Earl Strenger of Fremont; and a brother-in-law, Albert Kruger of Fremont.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Julia (Schrader) Hartung; her husband; a foster son, John Royuk; brothers, Fred Hartung and Henry Hartung; and sisters, Kathryn Bartling, Emma Strenger, Olga Denison and Margaret Brandert.

Pallbearers were Mark Penney, William Springan, Robert Denison, Douglas Denison, Brian Greunke, Brent Royuk, Michael Royuk, Rick Hilgenkamp and Donald Kruger.

Memorials may be given to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington was in charge of arrangements.

Alma Hartung was born Aug. 25, 1893, in rural Hooper. She grew up in the rural Hooper area. She was a sales clerk at the former Lallman Store in Winslow and the former Schafersman Store in Telbasta, prior to her marriage. She married Ewi Kruger Jan. 10, 1926, in Arlington; he died Dec. 29, 1940. The couple farmed five miles north of Arlington. After her husband’s death, she returned to the rural Hooper area until moving to Fremont in 1949. She moved to Arlington in 1987, and had been residing at Arbor Manor in Fremont since February 1990.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, north of Arlington, the Women’s Missionary League and the Ladies Quilting Group.

Survivors include her foster daughter-in-law, Esther Royuk of Arlington and a brother-in-law, Albert Kruger of Fremont.

She was also preceded in death by a foster son, two brothers and four sisters.

The funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, north of Arlington. The Revs. Michael Rogers and Dennis Maaske will officiate. Visitation will continue one hour prior to Saturday’s service at the church. Burial will be at St. Paul’s Cemetery, north of Arlington.

A memorial has been established to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
