Paul C. “Jim” Kruger, 71

Paul C. Kruger, 71, of Fort Calhoun, died Wednesday, May 14, 2003, in Omaha.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 17, at Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church. Interment will be in the Fort Calhoun Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, May 16, at Sievers-Sprick Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday.

Paul Colburn “Jim” Kruger was born March 5, 1932, in Fort Calhoun to Paul and Bea Kruger. He lived in Fort Calhoun his entire life. He was a graduate of the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, and was a lifetime farmer in the Fort Calhoun area.

On Jan. 18, 1958, he married Frances Thompson at the Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Kruger was a member of Solomon Lodge No. 10, A.F. & A.M. in Fort Calhoun; the Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church, where he was a former elder; Order of the Eastern Star, Naomi Chapter No, 121 in Fort Calhoun; National Feeders Association; Fort Calhoun School Board member for 32 years; member of the Honor Guard of the Fort Calhoun American Legion Post No. 348. He also served in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his wife, Frances; daughter, Debra Kruger of Fort Calhoun; one grandson; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Marcia Kruger of Omaha; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Bob Anderson of Tekamah; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and by a sister, Alice Kruger.

Memorials are suggested to Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church and the Fort Calhoun Rescue Squad.

Fort Calhoun man killed when tree limb hits him

A longtime Fort Calhoun farmer and school board member died this week during a farming accident.

Paul Colburn “Jim” Kruger, 71, of Fort Calhoun, died early Wednesday morning at the Creighton University Hospital in Omaha from head injuries he received from a Tuesday afternoon accident. While the incident remains under investigation with the Washington County Sheriff’s Department handing the case, Kruger was apparently moving a tree with a tractor at 4:40 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, when a limb struck him on the head.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 17, at the Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church. Interment will be in the Fort Calhoun Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, May 16, at the Sievers-Sprick Funeral Home in Fort Calhoun.

Kruger was a lifetime resident of Fort Calhoun and served on the Fort Calhoun School Board for 32 years.
