Fred C. Kruse, 99

Services for Fred C Kruse, 99 of Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Blair and formerly of Omaha, who died February 2, 1994 at Good Shepherd were Saturday, February 5, 1994 at Zion Lutheran Church. Rev. Merlin Reith officiated. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Fred C. Kruse was born April 5, 1894 on a farm 0.5 miles north of Boys Town to Herman and Louisa Hartz Kruse. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Millard, Nebraska and graduated from School District No. 25 on West Dodge Street. He attended Millard High School.

He married Martha Neuhaus December 25, 1917. They began farming in Washington County by Wranch School. In 1920 they moved to 132nd and Maple Streets. They spent the majority of their life there except for nine years north of Arlington.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and served as an elder at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Millard, where he was a former member.

He was one of the earliest supporters of the 4-H program in Douglas County. He became the first 4-H leader in the county in 1927 and continued to lead clubs for many years. He served as a school board director for District No, 57. He was a member of the Douglas County Fair Board for 33 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha E.; a son, Herman Harlen and two grandchildren.

He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond and Roberta, Blair; Marvin and Jean, Tecumseh, Nebraska; a daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Ted Martin, Arlington; five grand-children and 10 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Marti Fegter, Jerry Kruse, Linda Woodring, Renick Martin, Lisa Rush and Kim Kruse.

Memorials may go to Zion Lutheran Church or Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Blair.

Kremer Funeral Home in Omaha was in charge of arrangements.
