Walter E. Kruse, 91

Former Herman resident Walter E. Kruse, 91, of Blair, died Wednesday, March 10, 2004, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 13, at the Herman Legion Hall. Interment will be in the Herman Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Walter E. Kruse was born Nov. 10, 1912, west of Herman, to Clara Christensen and Peter Kruse. His early years were spent in Minnesota; he later moved back to the Herman area, where he attended school at Hill Creek.

On Dec. 1, 1935, he married Edna Toelke. Mr. Kruse worked for several area farmers and later farmed for himself, retiring in 1960. At that time, the couple purchased the Herman market and ran that business until full retirement.

He was a past member of the Herman Fire Department and had served on the Herman Village Board.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Gene and Linda Kruse of Herman and Gary and Bethene Kruse of Blair; two daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Tod Brodersen of Hastings and Jane and Steve Linn of Herman; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; daughter, Kristy; grandson, James; two brothers, William and Gerald; two sisters, Edna Potter and Norma West.
