Hans Toft, well-known and highly respected farmer residing about four miles southwest of Blair, passed away at his home on last Thursday, Oct. 26. The deceased had been a patient sufferer for many months and the end did not come unexpectedly to the family.

He was born on the old home farm just west of Orum where he grew to manhood. On Jan. 21, 1896 he married Miss Sophie Jensen and to this union two children were born, a son, Ansel, who has attained his manhood and still at home and a daughter, LaFern.

The funeral service held last Saturday from the home was attended by a host of friends and sympathisers who came to show their respect to the deceased and who followed the remains to its last resting place in the Blair cemetery.

#2- 1 Nov., 1922 - The Pilot - Hans Toft

Hans Toft died at his farm home west of Blair last Thursday of cancer of the liver from which he had been a sufferer for several months. The funeral was held at the residence at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon Rev. W. H. Underwood officiating. Burial was in the Blair cemetery. There was a large attendance at the funeral service for Mr. Toft was well known and highly respected by all who knew him. Hans Jensen Toft was born on a homestead near Orum December 29th, 1872 and so was nearing his 51st birthday. He was married to Sophia Jensen in Wayne, Neb. January 29th, 1896. They made their home in South Dakota for two years, the balance of his life was spent in Wayne and Washington counties. Besides the wife, he leaves two children, James Ansel Toft and Marguerite LaFern Toft, both of whom lived at home. Mr. Toft is also survived by his mother, Mrs. Otto Nielsen of this city; one sister, Mrs. Henry Block of Lewellyn, Neb.; and one full brother, Peter Toft, Fremont. Also two half brothers, J. T. Nelson of this city and Chris Nelson who lives near Orum.
