Martha Arline Cushman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Cushman was born Oct. 25, 1902 on her father’s farm about eight miles southwest of Herman and died on Feb. 8, 1929 at the age of twenty-six years, three months and fourteen days, at her home in Blair.

Her father died June 1916 and with her mother, she moved to Blair where the family has since made their home. She graduated from Blair high school in 1920 and for five years she taught school, four years of which was in the vicinity of Blair, and one year at Madrid, Nebraska.

Two years ago she was forced to give up her work on account of poor health which grew gradually worse till death came to relieve her after being confined to her bed, a patient sufferer for sixteen long months.

During her months of suffering she was admired by all for her cheerful disposition and her saintly being.

At the age of fourteen years she became a member of the Baptist church and through her life she was a truly consistent member.

The funeral services were held from the Baptist church at 1:30 p.m. on last Sunday and interment was made in the Rose Hill Cemetery.

Besides the mother she is survived by four sisters, Mrs. James Cooper of Blair, Mrs. Nels Petersen and Mrs. Opal Osborn of Spiker and Miss Nell Cushman at home, and two brothers, Fred of Spiker and Frank of California.

Martha Arline Cushman Died at Family Home

Martha Arline Cushman was born southwest of Herman October 25, 1902, and died at the family home in Blair last Friday after an illness of lengthy duration. she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Cushman, and the family lived near Herman until four years ago when she and her mother moved to Blair. The father died in 1916.

She was graduated from the Blair high school, and took up the teaching profession, teaching in Washington county schools for four years and a year at Madrid, Nebr. She was successful in following her profession, but ill health overtook her two years ago, since which time she had been unable to follow her chosen profession. She was possessed of a cheerful disposition, and was admired by all who knew her.

Funeral services were conducted from the Blair Baptist church Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock, the Rev. L. J. Moran officiating, after which interment was made in Rose Hill cemetery.

Surviving her are her bereaved mother, Mrs. Lulu Cushman of this city; four sisters, Mrs. Jas. Cooper and Nell Cushman of this city, and Mrs. Nels Petersen and Mrs. Opil Osborn of Spiker; and two brothers, Fred Cushman of Spiker and Frank Cushman of California.
