World Herald Staff Writer: Betsie Freeman

FORT CALHOUN, Neb.---Paul C. Kruger, a 32 year member of the Fort Calhoun Board of Education, has died.

Kruger, 71, was a lifelong resident of Fort Calhoun, leaving only to study for his degree in agriculture from the University of Nebraska. He graduated from Fort Calhoun High School in 1949. He served in the Army after college and then farmed near Fort Calhoun.

He thrived on community involvement, said his grandson, Trever Kruger of Fort Calhoun. Paul Kruger was president of the school board for 20 of the years that he served. He also was involved in the Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church, the Masons and the Eastern Star.

“He set a great example of how you’re supposed to live,” Trever Kruger said.

Paul Kruger is also survived by his wife, Frances, and a daughter, Debra Kruger, both of Fort Calhoun; a sister, Dorothy Anderson of Tekamah, Neb.; and a brother, Robert Kruger of Omaha.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church.
