Esther Kuhls, 90

Esther Kuhls, 90, of Fremont, died Friday, April 11, 2003, in the Edgewood Vista in Fremont.

Funeral services were Monday, April 14, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont with the Rev. Phillip Vance and Vicar Michael Meyer officiating. Interment was in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, east of Winslow.

Esther Kuhls was born April 18, 1912, in Washington County near Herman to Henry and Louise (Stork) Kuhls. She was baptized and confirmed in the Immanuel Lutheran Church, east of Winslow, and attended Immanuel Lutheran School. She also attended the Brandert School and the Fontanelle High School.

In 1943, she went to Omaha, where she first worked sewing uniforms, then, for 20 years, she was the secretary for the First Lutheran Church of Omaha. She later worked at Children’s Hospital until retiring.

In her retirement, she worked part time as a telemarketer for Omaha Steaks. She also volunteered with Lutheran Family Services and called on patients at Methodist Hospital.

In 1993, she moved to Nye Square in Fremont. In 2000, she became a resident of Nye Pointe and, at the time of her death, she was a resident of Edgewood Vista.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont.

She is survived by a sister, Viola Kuhls of Fremont; two nieces, Loretta Hoegemeyer of Hooper, and Ardeth and husband Don Sperling of Arlington; two nephew and their wives, Kenneth and Ruth Battling of Brownsville, Texas, and Virgil and Marilyn Kuhls of Milwaukee, Wis.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, including on in infancy, and a sister.

Memorials are suggested to Lutheran Family Services and Trinity Lutheran Church.

Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont was in charge of arrangements.
