Martin O. Kuhr, Sr. Buried At Blair Tuesday, Dec. 19th

Businessman over 40 Years; Councilman for 20 years

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, December 19th for Martin O. Kuhr, Sr., long-time Blair businessman, member of the City Council and active member in civic organizations. He had died at the Methodist Hospital in Omaha where he had undergone surgery on December 5th.

He was a native of Denmark, having been born at Bornholm, Denmark December 5, 1896. He was 76 years of age at his death.

He came to the United States in 1914 when a youth 17 years old. He came to the Blair area and for a time worked as a farm hand. He attended Dana College one year to learn the English language. He joined the army when World War I broke out and he saw overseas service.

After completing his duties with the Armed Forces he returned to Blair and on May 24, 1922 he was married to Esther Sorensen, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. P. C. Sorensen.

He started the Blair Feed Mill in 1930 at its present location and it has operated there for 42 years. Mean-while he became interested in the American Legion, the 40 et 8 and the Masonic Lodge. He also took an active interest in civic affairs and for 20 years he represented Ward Four and later Ward One as City Councilman.

Last May 24th, 1972, Mr. and Mrs. Kuhr celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary which was well attended by the hundreds of friends he had made during his many years in Blair.

Mr. and Mrs. Kuhr became the parents of seven children, one daughter and six sons. The daughter is Mrs. Eunice Linnenkohl, of Blair. The sons are Martin, Jr. of Blair; Leon of Denver; Kenneth of Austin, Texas; Melvin, Donald and Richard, all of Blair. There are 23 grandchildren and one great-grandson. Two sisters also survive. They are Mrs. Laura Rasmussen who is a resident of the Good Shepherd Home and Mrs. Jens Hansen of Bornholm, Denmark. There are two brothers, Chris Kuhr, of Blair and Julius Kuhr of Elmhurst, Ill.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the First Lutheran Church. The Rev. Sanford Sorgen conducted the service. Burial was made in the Blair Cemetery under the direction of the Bendorf Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers were Don Lippincott, Stanley Bednar, Lester Nelson, Jon Stewart, Alfred O. Sick and Ted Stewart.

Honorary pallbearers were Fred Guyer, Jack Jensen, Emory Hunt, Ernest Bohs, Carl Graverholt, Harold C. Jorgensen, Harry Sorensen and Clarence S. Petersen.
