Mrs. Gustav Auch, lifelong resident of Washington County, died early Monday at the Blair Hospital. She had been ill but a few days.

Mrs. Auch, whose given name was Sophie, was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Chris Stender, long-time and respected farmers of the county.

The deceased was born south of Blair on December 13, 1898. She was married to Gustav Auch March 19, 1919 and the couple moved immediately to the farm in the Dornacker School District, which was to be their home for the rest of their lives.

She was baptized and confirmed at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in 1934 and was an active member through the years.

She is survived by her husband, Gus, and by a son, Chester, and by a grandson, Londo Auch. A sister, Mrs. Charlotte Bergman of Blair, is the sole survivor of a family of 12 children, consisting of seven girls and five boys.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at St. John’s Lutheran Church at Bennington. The Rev. Norman Schroeder conducted the service and interment was made in the German Cemetery in the Dornacker district in south Washington County. The Hadan-Golden Mortuary of Bennington was in charge of the service. Mrs. Henry Kniep was organist and Mrs. Gerry Johnson soloist.

Pallbearers were all nephews of the deceased. They were Don Bergman, Fred Schumacher, Alton Stender, Earl Wulf, Bob Auch and John Auch.

The family has suggested memorials to St. John’s Lutheran Church at Bennington.
