Mary Margaret Sullivan, 13, of Herman died Wednesday of polio-myelitis. She was the third young person in Washington county to die of the disease which was plaguing the country.

#2-23 Sept., 1937 - The Enterprise

Mary Margaret Sullivan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Raymond Sullivan of Herman is reported to have died early this Thursday morning. Margaret, aged 13 years, was stricken several days ago with infantile paralysis, and was rushed to Omaha where the iron lung was brought into use, but with no result. Thus two have succumbed during the past week in this vicinity.
