Fenton Sully, 84

Fenton Francis Sully of Salem, Oregon, died August 2, 1987, at McMinnville Community Hospital.

He was born December 11, 1902, in Fort Calhoun to James W. and Elizabeth M. Fenton Sully.

Sully was schooled in Fort Calhoun and in Sioux City, Iowa.

He was united in marriage to Louise M. Rodgers in Blair on October 25, 1926.

After their marriage, he and his wife owned and operated a grocery store and post office in DeSoto.

Until 1940, he worked for the Blair Greenhouse (wholesale and retail florist). In 1940, he moved to Los Angeles, California where he worked during the war for the Defense Plant Air Research.

Following the war, Sully was employed at Everest & Jennings (wheelchair manufacturing) as a design engineer.

While employed for that company, he traveled to Europe in 1955 to start two manufacturing plants, one in Wales and the other in Germany.

He retired in 1972. In 1974, the family moved to Lafayette, Oregon.

Sully was preceded in death by his wife Louise, in 1981.

In 1986, he moved to Salem to live with his daughter. He was a member of the St. James Catholic Church in McMinnville, Oregon, and the Knights of Columbus. His hobby was photography.

Survivors include sons William R. Sully of Hillsboro, Oregon; Daniel Sully of Los Angeles; James Sully of Huntington Beach, California; daughter Connie Foster of Salem; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-granddaughter.

Mass of Christian Burial was held August 6, 1987, at St. James Catholic Church in McMinnville. Father Carl Gimpl of St. James officiated.

Interment was in the St. James Catholic Cemetery.
