Frances M. Sully, 91

A Mass of the Resurrection for Frances M. Sully, 91, who died Tuesday, October 3, 1995 at the Lutheran Home in Omaha will be 10 a.m. Friday, October 6 at St. John the Baptist Church in Fort Calhoun. A wake service will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Thursday, October 5 at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Blair.

Frances M. Sully was born May 5, 1904 to Louis and Anna Donnelly Schenk, who farmed in the McCarthy area. She attended McCarthy grade school and was a graduate of Blair High School.

She received an Associate’s two-year teaching certificate from Wayne State Teachers College. In 1964, she received a bachelor of science degree from Dana College.

She taught at several schools, including McCarthy, DeSoto and Fort Calhoun schools in Washington County and Ralston and St. Anne’s schools in Omaha.

She married Joseph B. Sully of DeSoto June 13, 1927. They farmed the land which Joseph’s grandfather had settled as a pioneer in the 1860’s. They had eight children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; sons, Joey, Patrick and Leo and by a sister, Eva Snowdon of rural Blair.

She is survived by a sister, Ada E. Ducker of Omaha, her children and spouses, Louis and Mary Sully of Fort Calhoun, Sister M. Liz Sully, O.P. of Sinsinawa, Wisconsin, Mary K. Miller of Blair, Patricia and Ray Nichols of Yego, Guam and Ruth and John Laverty of Omaha; 24 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and many relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Memorials may be directed to St. John’s Education Fund or the Sinsinewa Dominican Sisters.

Sievers-Sprick Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
