Obituary

Mary Jane Minton was born in Nashville, Tennessee, May 14, 1826, and passed away at Erskine, Alberta, Canada, March 20th, 1914, aged 87 years, 10 months and 6 days.

In 1840 she was married in Illinois to William R. Summers. To this union were born 8 children, 4 of whom and her husband preceded her to the great beyond. Those left to mourn her loss are Mrs. J.M. Fryman, of this city [Blair, Nebraska], Mrs. C.H. Campbell, of Winnebago, Neb., M.A. Summers, of Page, Neb., and James Summers, of Erskine, Alberta, together with 28 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

In 1867 she with her husband and children immigrated to Nebraska and settled on a homestead near where the city of Blair now stands, making this long journey with ox teams. She remained on this homestead until after the death of her husband, which occurred in 1880, when she moved to this city, where she lived alone until 6 years ago, when she went to live with her children.

A little more than two years ago she went to Erskine, Alberta, and made her home with her son, James, until God called her home. She had been an invalid for 16 months, not able to arise from her chair without help.

At the age of 8 years she united with the Methodist church and ever remained a constant and honored member.

Her funeral was conducted at the Erskine Christian church March 21st, at 2 p.m., rev. McIlvaine officiating. Six of her grandsons, all sons of James Summers, were pallbearers and her remains were laid to rest in the Erskine cemetery.—Contributed.
