Services for Emma Bertelsen, 75 of Fresno, California and formerly of Blair who died March 18, 1994 were held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Easton, California.

Emma Dorothea Bertelsen was born January 6, 1919 in Sidney, Montana to Gerhardt and Mary Bertelsen. They moved to Blair while she was still a child.

She graduated from Blair High School in 1937 and was a graduate of Immanuel Hospital School of Nursing in Omaha, made possible in part by her brother, Chester's working to save money to help pay for her schooling.

After she became a registered nurse, she worked in a hospital in Omaha until 1947. She then moved to Fresno to help her brother’s family and began working on the second floor of the old Fresno Community Hospital where she soon became head nurse. She was an active member of First Lutheran Church in Blair. She was also an active and contributing member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Easton since 1947 where she was involved in various activities, including the choir and playing the piano.

After her retirement, she volunteered, assisting Dr. Fred Colley with physicals at the Salvation Army. She also volunteered her time to help the sick or elderly.

She is survived by one sister, Nina (Mrs. Sidney) Paulsen of Minden, Nebraska and several nieces and nephews.
