Mrs. Martin Bertelsen, 54, Buried Tuesday

Lifetime County Resident Ill, Failing Health Many Months

Mrs. Martin Bertelsen, lifetime resident of Washington County and wife of a former Blair merchant, passed away at the Blair Hospital last Sunday, June 16th. Her death ended many months of illness and continually failing health.

Laura C. Bertelsen was the daughter of Jacob Andreasen of the Kennard vicinity. She was born March 17, 1892 at Kennard where she was reared and attended school.

On October 5, 1910, she was married to Martin Bertelsen of Blair, and the couple has made this community their home during the entire time. She was widely known, having been a helpmate of her husband during the many years they operated a grocery store in Blair. During these years she made many lasting friends.

She is survived by her husband, two sisters, Mrs. J.P. Sorensen and Mrs. Paul Kempcke, and four brothers. They are Robert, Fritz, Arthur, and Elmer, all residents or former residents of this vicinity. One sister, Anna, and a brother preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held at the Bertelsen home on West Washington Street on Tuesday, of this week and from the First Lutheran Church. Rev. Harold Jorgensen officiated with Bendorf Service in charge. Burial was made at the Blair Cemetery.

Rites for Mrs. Bertelsen, 54

Lifetime Countian Wife of Ex-Grocer, Died in Blair Sunday

Ill many months, Mrs. Martin Bertelsen died Sunday at Blair Hospital. She was 54.

Native and lifetime resident of Washington County, Mrs. Bertelsen and her husband had resided in Blair for 36 years. They formerly operated the Bertelsen Market, which they closed five years ago. Since that time Mr. Bertelsen has been an inspector for the Port of Entry.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Bertelsen were held at the Bertelsen home, 604 West Washington St, Tuesday afternoon, followed by rites at First Lutheran Church. The Rev. Harold C. Jorgensen, pastor, officiated. Interment, under the direction of the Bendorf Funeral Home was in Blair Cemetery.

Native of Kennard

Mrs. Bertelsen was born at Kennard Mar.17, 1892 as Laura C. Andreasen, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Andreasen. She grew to womanhood there, attending school there. She and Mr. Bertelsen were married Oct. 5, 1910, since which time they have resided in Blair.

Surviving Mrs. Bertelsen are her husband, Martin; two sisters, Mrs. James P. Sorensen (Emma) and Mrs. Paul Kempcke (Elvina), both of Blair; and four brothers, Robert Andreasen of Omaha, Fritz and Elmer Andreasen, both of Kennard, and Arthur Andreasen of Lyons. A sister Anna, and a brother Charles Andreasen, preceded Mrs. Bertelsen in death.
