Clarence Kuhr, Supervisor of County Roads, Is Dead

Commissioner And Road Superintendent For 23 Years

Clarence Kuhr, well known Blair man and lifelong resident of Washington County, died Tuesday at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair. He had been hospitalized for several weeks following heart complications and several paralytic strokes. He was 66 years old.

Mr. Kuhr had served Washington County for 23 years as a County Commissioner and later as Superintendent of Roads.

He was born at Kennard February 5th, 1904 and he grew up to manhood in the Kennard vicinity. On June 17, 1929 he was married to Miss Edna Beck, of Blair and the couple farmed in the Orum vicinity for 8 years.

Later he moved to Blair and became interested in the oil business, both retail and tank wagon distribution through the Blair area.

He became a candidate for County Commissioner during the time that this county was governed by a three-commissioner system. Later, he resigned the post to accept the position of County Highway Superintendent, which office he headed until the time of his death. As road superintendent, he built an effective maintenance system with road men stationed throughout the county to provide the most effective and the quickest service when needed. He also directed the establishment of a central service maintenance division for road equipment, at Blair. Under his direction, most of the roads of Washington County have undergone extensive improvements and he has administered the services of his office with equity to all parts of the county.

He is survived by his wife, Edna, and by a daughter (Betty) Mrs. Floyd Vaughn of Blair, and by two sons, Keith Kuhr and Gordon Kuhr, both of Omaha. There are eight grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. Kenneth George (Edith) and another sister, Mrs. James W. Ryan (Vivian) both reside in Omaha.

Funeral services will be held at the First Lutheran Church Friday afternoon at 2 P.M. The Rev. Harold Jorgensen will conduct the service and burial, under the direction of the Campbell Mortuary will be made in the Blair Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Carl Hansen, John C. Hansen, Menno Larssen, Alfred O. Sick, Earl Jensen and Mervyn Gottsch.
