Elvin Sunds, 72

Services for Elvin H. Sunds, 72, who died February 14, 1993 at his home in rural Clarke County, Iowa were February 17, 1993 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Osceola with Rev. Greg Leach officiating. Burial was at Maple Hill Cemetery at Osceola.

Elvin H. Sunds was born November 3, 1920 in Blair to James P. and Tracie Wolf Sunds. He received his education in the Bennington school system.

He was a World War II veteran, serving in the United States Air Force as a first lieutenant and pilot. He flew B-17s and B-24s until his honorable discharge in 1947.

He was the recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross as well as other rewards for meritorious service.

He married Evelyn Morrison in Dayton, Ohio February 24, 1945. Following his discharge they made their home in Des Moines, Iowa where he worked with Brady Motor Freight as an over the road driver for 32 years. They moved to a farm near Osceola, Iowa in 1967.

He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local No. 147 in Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Sunds of Osceola, a son and sons and daughters-in-law: David and Carolyn Sunds of Norwalk, Iowa; Christopher and Marla Sunds of East Hartford, Connecticut; a son, Father Elvin Sunds, Jr., of Jackson, Mississippi; daughters and sons-in-law: Barbara and Randall Stewart of Newton, Iowa; and Carol and Mark Sharp of Creston, Iowa; seven grandchildren; sisters: Harriet Lebbert of Omaha and Inez Newhaus of Kansas City, Missouri; a brother, Wayne Sunds of Riverside, California and other relatives and friends.

Memorials may go to the church.

Kale Funeral Home in Osceola was in charge of arrangements.
